Making yoga accessible to all -

fostering healing, harmony, community, and personal transformation.

The Sattva Project believes

…yoga is a path to healing, resilience, self-discovery and inner peace. We recognize and honor the inherent dignity and worth of every human being, regardless of their past or current circumstances. Our approach is rooted in our values of authenticity, compassion, connection, and belonging.

Through free classes in jails, rehabilitation centers, and day reporting centers, and “give what you can” community classes, we offer tools for stress relief, self-discovery, and inner peace.

Why yoga?

The practice of yoga offers profound benefits for persons in jails, prisons, and substance abuse recovery homes, particularly when delivered through a trauma-informed approach. These settings often involve individuals who have experienced significant trauma, leading to heightened stress, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation.

Yoga provides a holistic, accessible, evidence-based method to address these challenges, fostering healing, personal transformation, and community connection. It is a powerful tool for addressing the complex needs of these communities, promoting resilience and facilitating meaningful change.

What is Sattva?

Sattva is a Sanskrit word associated with the qualities of harmony, light, alignment, and balance. When we are in a sattvic state, we feel positive and uplifted. Our minds and bodies feel calm, and we possess a sense of contentment. From this place, we can access wisdom, inner peace, and a deeper connection to oneself.

Who do we serve?

The Sattva Project brings the healing power of yoga to those who are too often overlooked—offering trauma-informed classes in jails, prisons, and substance abuse recovery homes, where the need for healing and connection is profound. We also hold free and “give what you can” community classes, ensuring that no one is turned away due to financial hardship. By meeting people where they are, regardless of circumstance, we’re creating accessible spaces for transformation, resilience, and belonging. Our mission is simple but powerful: to make yoga accessible to all–fostering healing, harmony, community, and personal transformation.
